    TeraStation authentication configuration

How do TeraStation users configure their authentication settings?

I've go a TeraStation 1 (firmware 1.03) but it does not appear to support AD integration unless the domain is in mixed mode. Yuck.

    Any advice welcome...

    Re: TeraStation authentication configuration

You need to have the 'Pro' version of the Terrastation if you wish to used AD intergrated authentication out of the box.

Failing that, you can try your luck with some homebrew firmware.

Just update your firmware then. The latest version is 1.07.

Thanks Geoff. Could you point me in the right direction for a download?

    Re: TeraStation authentication configuration

Infact, I was looking at the wrong list. The 1.03 firmware has been withdrawn and the current wisdom seems to be to revert back to 1.01.

    Re: TeraStation authentication configuration

Well, I put the earlier firmware on and even though the help still says it will only work on a mixed mode AD domain, it happily joined my Win2K native one!

    Thanks Geoff.

1.04 firmware has been released. It works ok with AD and has support for Samba based networks too.

    Re: TeraStation authentication configuration

I'm looking for a NAS at the moment. I've ruled out Terastation in the past, due to the limitation in AD support where it could only enumerate up to 1000 users.

Anyone know whether the user limit and domain mode issues mentioned above are apparent in the current firmware release for Terastation pro II? Thanks

    Re: TeraStation authentication configuration

I have a question about the buffalo NAS units namely the terastation pro series, when it states active directory support what exactly does this mean, does it for instance use NT file format and utilize the NT securty model at both files and folder level.

    regards baz

I had the same problem with the group limit and found no answers anywhere. After a bit of playing around I found the group and user list limit can be increased from 1000.

    1. Telnet into the Terastation and login as root
    2. edit /www/cgi-bin/module/BufDomainGroupListInfo.pm
    3. In BufDomainGroupListInfo.pm script you will see each subroutine has a counter which is set to 1000 "if ($group_count > (1000-1)) { $flag++; }"
    4. If you wanted to enumerate 5000 groups you would need to edit each of this to read "if ($group_count > (5000-1)) { $flag++; }".
    5. write the file and bingo yer enumerating 5000 groups.

    Re: TeraStation authentication configuration

    Thanks for the info, BD.

I was wavering about whether to get one for our video editing. I guess they set this limit for performance?

    cheers

If the 1.04 firmware isn't working for you, you must downgrade to the 1.01 firmware (the firmware is on the buffalo support site) to get functional AD support.
