    Recommend me cheap laptop for gaming

    My friend wanted to buy a widescreen laptop.

    budget = ($510) $649 ^^

    harddisk space at least 160GB

    can easily play:
    World of Warcraft
    Call of Duty 4

    if it can play Crysis the better.

    Thanks

    Without being too pessimistic, if he wants to accomplish that level of gaming for that budget, it's desktop only, otherwise he'll be playing in the lowest levels of details possible. Besides for games like COD and Diresis then he'll be using a mouse anyway, and possibly an external keyboard - so he's already half way to a desktop anyway.

    Nearest laptop I can find that might not be entirely crap is the Samsung Q430 - intel i3 processor, 3gb ram and a geforce 310m graphics controller.
    But let's face it, with the above assumptions and the fact that having the extra gubbins needed for gaming, it will also have crap battery life, again futher negating the need for a laptop.

    If he really must though, take a look around and avoid anything with GMA graphics, celeron processors (not forgetting that the pentium dual core available last month is going to be rebadged a celeron this month) - same with semperon for AMD kit.

    Samsung and Acer, possibly the bargain basement stuff like Medion will likely be the only chance of a vaguely well performing laptop in that price range.

    Possibility with a Zacate powered AMD machine - the integrated 6300 series graphics in the processor are impressive - around twice the power of 780G and far away from any Intel GMA. Should be cheap too - but won't play games on max settings. Also good battery life on these.
