Claiming on warranty for data media and other non PC items

Has any one ever made a claim on a warranty for deffective tapes or CD-Rs.

Do nomanaufacurer's write long warranties because they know it will be too much bother to claim versus the expected payout.

I had a bad batch of TDK CD-R's once.

Wrote a letter sendng a sample - got a new box in the post a few weeks later.
