    BT Versatility System Install

    Hi,

I've tried installing a BT Versatility System within my home office, running 3No V8 Feature Phones,

All phones have been wired back to master Versatility Box into the first 3 Extention Sockets , which has three modules installed, ISDN, Voice and PSTN Card.

    all 3 phones work, Internally,

however soon as i connect the BT Versatility to my incoming BT anologue line it throws a wobbly - it Holds open the line, cant ring out or ring in - and the V8 phones says line is busy.

I have read that i cant run broad band on the same line so i have disconnected this and isolated this. - but stilll got the issue.

I know the line is running fine because if i discount the BT Versatility from the Master Socket and Plug a normal Telephone in, every thing works?

I've hard wired the BT V System into the master socket, using cable A & B.
can any one shred some light on whats gone wrong or what i've wired up wrong?

Do i need a BT Business Line? and not an Residential Line? Has BT put a block on the system at the exchange?

    Regards

    Dan

Just because you've unplugged that hasnt removed the adsl service on the line.

Have u tried the versatility with a micro filter?

Tried with a Mirco filter, seemed like it wanted to work, pick hand set up, press 9 to dail out, then 10s later it displays line busy on the LCD,

the only thing i can think off is if i phone the Line Rental provider to temporaly take the ASDL off the line and test it.

if i dail the line from an mobile it rings the line, but none of the hand sets actually ring.

There is a known issues with analogue cards in the Versatility's holding analogue lines open, you need the engineering release of the Versatility Wizard to change some settings if I remember correctly. I will see if I can find the information somewhere on it for you

There you go - Guarded Clear i suspect it is, as I suspect after 120 seconds of being "busy" its back to normal:

Thanks for getting back to me & for suggestions. I can't obtain the wizard software as unfortunately don't have a bt support account

Don't quite understand what u mean about the guarded call as have left the line open (handset up) for 120 secs & no change?

    Many thanks

The guarded clear keeps the line open for 120 seconds after you have replaced the handset. Unfortunatly all my Versatilitys use ISDN lines and not analogue lines and my spare system needs a new mainboard so I cannot test it for you here at home either. But I have come across it before numerous times online so a bit more googling might give you the answer

The phones have all just started to work, as you mentioned the only thing now is 120 sec delay after i put the hand set down? The system is working on a shared line with o2 broad band through a filter, how do I get passed the 120 sec issue? BT wizard?

It sounds like you haven't got clearguard turned off the lines, did you do it as the BT site said? If that way is not working you will need to get the BT Versatility Wizard and connect up to look at it.

Just to let you know.. when connecting a broadband line to the phone system you need to prefilter it. Use an ADSL2000 box which will give you a filtered connection that connects to the analogue port.
Also... important - you need to chhange the line settings to 'Loop Unguarded'. Default is Loop Guarded, this will make the lines lock up.
