Check manufacturers website for wireless card to see what it supports - if you are lucky it might have a firmware update of some description, try latest drivers but I am fairly certain as of XP SP2 it supported WPA type encryption ie WPA PSK, WPA PSK 2 etc
If drivers / firmware don't help then I would look around for a newer wireless card that supports said encryption methods.

29th December 2010, 11:34 AM #4 XP SP2 does not support WPA2 without a patch.
If your router is offering both WPA and WPA2 the most likely issue is the OS doesn't negotiate correctly.
The SP3 update will probably sort it as long as the wifi drivers are also current.

Was going from memory and looks like you are right
The Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)/Wireless Provisioning Services Information Element (WPS IE) update for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is available
I must of been thinking of just WPA not WPA 2 which is clearly more updated / better encryption

4th January 2011, 11:08 AM #6 havent looked at it since posting the topic but will try that next time when i see the laptop.
router is offering both WPA and WPA2. but it trys to get it from the router insted of me entering the passcode. But will try sp3 on the laptop and see where we go from there.
