got a problem with a latitude d 505, the problem is that the power adapter doesn't appear to be working! i've tried in another machine and it does work.
the problem seems to be when you plug it in it shorts out the power adapter and knocks the little green light off! and then won't do anything at all, i've tried it without the battery and all other easy to remove items out of it. but i don't want to be completely dismantling as yet. so i just wondered if any of you guys have seen anything like this before!

Not with D505s, no but I have seen it with at least eight or nine D510s. It always results in a support call to Dell to have them swap the motherboard out.

thought it might have to be a support call but with no warranty on it, its probably not worth it!.

D505 Power Problem
I have a similar problem with a D505 charging system.
The following website has a possible fix:-
Possible solutions for burnt-out circuitry on Dell Latitude D505 mobo? - Tech Support Forums - TechIMO.com
Hope this helps some of us that are still supporting this old laptop.
