    Can anyone recommend a standard A4 scanner - the actual model - that will work with both XP Pro AND Win 7?

    the Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner is compatible with the below,

    Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional/ XP Home Edition/ XP Professional/ XP Professional x64 Edition/ Windows Vista (Pre-installed model or upgrade of Windows 2000 Professional pre-installed model and windows 7)
    Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later

    thanks. Have been advised that one may be a bit pricey - looking for something cheaper as a contrast

    Any of the Canon Lide range of scanners. It's what we use here and they work fine with both

    I love the Canon Lide scanners. Not least because they are so portable... Compact, light-weight, USB powered, no mains.

    I've installed the drivers on every PC in the school; they are kept in neoprene zipped covers and can be borrowed from the Library for use by a teacher/class.

    I've got one at home too

    Do you install the CD drivers or just the ones off the website as people are suggesting?

    I copied the CD to the server and installed from that... given that we don't have many PCs and I rebuilt the image of the ICT Suite machines over the summer, it didn't take long.
