New non rack-mount server for SBS

    Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of advise on hardware for a new Win SBS server.

Must be non rack-mount as don't rack space for this server.

Basically I have a bit of a hodge podge of hardware / software to consolidate onto a
SBS server and I am in need of a decent server to plonk it on but not sure where to buy from.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Conrad

What sort of spec are you looking for / what are you hoping to achieve with this new box / how many users are you wanting / volume of storage needed

Answer those and I am sure many members can point you in the right direction.

For a starter for 10, HP ProLiants in the ML Series are a great starting place.

    Hi John,

Thanks for the reply, not quite with it this morning.

For the moment it will be sub 10 users with heavy email use, about 2 - 5 gig each so far worth of PST's
that I would like to pull into exchange.

I already have a drobo DAS box (1 Tb disk space) which is hosting shared files that I will attach to new
server so disk space on the server isn't a massive concern except for mail storage.

I would go with Dell Poweredge or HP Proliant.

You could get something like this - HP ProLiant ML110 G6 X3430 1P 1GB-U Non-hot Plug 250GB SATA LFF 300W PS Svr/TV (585458-035) specifications - HP Small & Medium Business products it needs more memory though, at least 4GB if not more IMHO, Exchange loves ram and the more you give it the happier it is.

Also you want to at least mirror that hard drive for redundancy, but that should give you the space you need from what you have said above, as I assume that you will be storing general documents and files on your Drobo and just keeping Exchange's mailstore etc on the actual SBS box.
