I'm looking for a recommendation / quote for a decent printer which would mainly be for GCSE Photo and text use. Currently the teacher requesting this sends to a HP laser but the cost of replacement toner is driving her nuts!

More expensive to print to an inkjet than a laser, I'm sure.
Have you looked at Dye Sub ?
We are in exactly the same situation, they currently use a Colour Laserjet 2600n and the costs are ridiculous!
Does everyone agree that any type of inkjet will just incur more costs?
They like to print contact sheets - 8 thumbnails on each sheet. Quality isn't so much the issue - more reliability.
Take a look at the Brother range, I found them to be the most reliable and the ink lasts longer.

Second shout here for Brother....superb machines, ink a lot less painful than HP also
I'd suggest HL-4040CN....cashback available too by the look of it

Canon or Kodak - there was that kodak printer that was meant to be cheap on ink and pretty good - not sure how true that is though ? Me thinks it is time for review reading ??
The only problem with the Kodak one is that it only has one colour cartridge, so if you using alot of one colour you will have to replace the cartridge when you still have lots of other colours left! If you are nor printing alot in one go then Inkjet can be a cheap. I would go for something with 4 - 6 seperate inks though. Brother are really pushing their colour inkjets at the moment as they are cheap to run. If you are printing alot though I would stick to your laser!

In that case I have an older Canon Pixma MP630 and there are newer models of them about now ( good reviews on PC Pro ) and they have all the separate ink cartridges
I would say for Photo printing especially..Canon are right up there!!
Reviving this thread as they now want a replacement for an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 - something like it for the best GCSE photos to be printed on proper Photo Paper.
