    NAS box with big storage and RAID?

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to find a decent NAS box that is large in capacity 8Gb but can be formatted in ntfs, as I need to do server 2008 backups to it.
    I will need to rsync to it.


    Has anyone used anything similar recently?

    We simply bought an Antec 1200 case, 12 Antec external drive mounting bays, 12 2TB harddrives and motherboard / RAM / processor from CPLTD, stuck it all together and installed Debian. Cost around £2,000 for 20TB.

    FreeNas? Was that what you used in your setup dhicks?

    It's a prebuilt NAS solution based on FreeBSD. I've had a quick play with it, but had no real need for a NAS until recently (looking to use it at home) but I know a few people who have used it an recommended it to me ..

    Nope, just went for plain Debian in the end. I joined the machine to the domain and configured a bunch of Samba shares, that was about it. This thread might come in handy:
