    Tablet PC

Our head teacher currently has a Fujitsu Siemans Stylstic ST series tablet pc which is a couple of years old. It is slow and doddery but he likes its functionality.

I am looking to replace it with a similar model but am not keen on buying any more F-S stuff due to problems with their support that we have encountered.

Does anyone know of any similar tablet PC's from other companies? I have found plenty which are the 'convert a laptop into a tablet' style - but they are all twice as thick and heavier than his current one and he only wants the tablet functionality and not the laptop bit.

I'm currently using a toshiba M200, found it to be great. Especially when connected to the docking station and a second monitor!
I think the M400 is the current model though.

    Re: Tablet PC

I've just taken a look at both of those and the problems would be:

Samsung: Far too small. This is his only computer.
Toshiba: Too big, it is double the thickness of his old one. And it is half a kilo heavier.

    Any others?

Was that the M400 or M200? The M400 is much bigger than the M200, bigger screen, CD-RW, etc. The M200 might be suitable if you can find any. Good luck with that though as it's been discontinued, and i doubt the head would want second-hand .

I think most are now either very small and not suitable for use as an only computer or two big for the general usage they need. If you want to buy an M400 i'll swap my M200 for it. Only one careful owner.

    Re: Tablet PC

My question was not really asking for general tablet pc's but specifically in the style of a 'slate'. The one he has doesn't have the keyboard type bits and is just a big screen with a dock. When in the office he just uses it as the screen with an external kb/mouse.

I have an older Motion that is great. UK suppliers are Ergo and do education discounts.

Take a look at the new Toshiba tablet the portege R400.

Out in March - I think they had one round the back of the stand at BETT (not on general show) - did not get around to seeing it but heard about it from the Toshiba guys in the pub on the Friday lunchtime.

It has its own website at http://www.love-to-lead.com/

It is a "turnaroundable" tablet with a full keyboard - but it is far from bulky.

Saw one earlier. Problem is though I dont think it;s compatible with my MultiDock II, and there's no mention of price. Bet it's going to be 1.5 - 2k easily.

Wow, that is tiny! We're looking at 12.1" screen computers - it being his only computer and all.

Ooh! Shiny! It's only a cm thicker, I think he could live with that. Now just to wait till it is released...

Do they? Can you point me to it on their site as I can only find a Asus convertible one.

    Re: Tablet PC

I have used the HP Tablet PCs / Laptops, I appreciate you have said you dont want a Laptop, you want a pure tablet, but they are very light and thin (well in my view anyway) so they may be an option. I have used a Compaq Tablet IE a true tablet and I wasn't keen, and prefer the HP laptop convertable thingy.
