Most of the computers I’m looking after are now over three years old. I’m finding that the onboard clock is running at anything up to a quarter hour ahead of real time. The on board button batteries are in good condition so it’s not a problem related to that. Any suggestions please?

Do you get them to sync with the server at logon? Try adding this to your login script.
NET TIME \\%SERVERNAME% /SET /Y

Use the w32time section in group policy to sync the time to the server.
Login script won't help if kerberos decides your clock is too far out to allow login :P

Windows Components -> system -> Windows Time Service.
Enable the NTP client
Point the NTP client options to the Domain controller. Just the server name really, other settings can remain on the defaults.
