Our big colour laser is configured to default to BW and only print colour when the user selects it to do so. Its part of the printer properties of all colour printers as far as I know.

I'm looking for a printer that will print mono only and not 'count' as a page from the colour toners, our toner supplier told me that if I print mono a page is counted against the colour toners, presumably he meant if a mono page is printed without configuring the printer to print only mono. I'm after a laser colour printer that needs no configuring to print only mono!

Not sure on this I think that the printer counter takes its queue from the print job sent to it, if the print driver is set to allow color even if it contains none the job will still be counted as a color one. We set up all of our general use color lasers as two separate printers on the clients that both point to the same printer, one is color and set by default to print to color, the other is black and white. This seems to be easier for the staff to get a handle on and works quite well for us with the larger color photocopiers.

Thanks, that must be what he meant. Now next question anyone recommend a duplexing, economical, accepts refilled toners laser printer around the £350 mark?
