Not sure I understand the issue / question.
Are you saying you can log on to the network, access any local intranet sites but just not access the Internet?

The fix I find when Vista doesn't have the globe in the taskbar is to restart, but yes Vista is pants.

Is it a laptop or desktop? I had this problem with my vista desktop at home, and it turned out to be because it was sent to sleep and when I woke it back up there as no connection. The solution was to unplug the power cable leave it out for a min plug it back in.....worked after that![]()

Yes I have had this problem before. It connects to the network but refuses to go beyond it. Repairing sometimes works,
Its sometimes to do with having multiple network connections (such as your mobile phone). But thats just a guess.

Sorry, im on the brink of throwing it out the window...
Vista laptop, trying to use it wirelessly. Can connect and browse network but cant get any internet.
Not working when wired either...
The icon only appears when it gets a response from a specified server iirc. Just because it says local only doesn't mean it has no internet connection, this query can fail with things like authenticating proxies and various firewalls.
Essentially it doesn't really mean anything.

If Vista cannot connect to www.microsoft.com it assumes the machine only has local network connectivity.
Maybe worthwhile checking proxy settings for IE.
I've just fired up a Vista machine here and even though I can surf the internet its telling me I only have local connectivity![]()

Ping default gateway then if that works try pinging and tracert -ing some sites and see if you get any responses. Do you have a proxy server which requires ident replies?

Thanks for all your replies guys...
I deleted the adapters and let it reinstall them and seems ok at the mo. But these other things you have suggested might help me with an out of work problem that im also having with Vista
Thanks again..
