Member of staff has just given me their laptop.
Keyboard and mouse work during post but as soon as windows is loaded they stop. If i attached a usb mouse and keyboard they work fine.
Cant see any problems in Device manager, i've removed and let windows reinstall but no change.
No sticky type keys on.
Everything looks on in BIOS...
Any suggestions....havent got the brain power today...i want my bed..

I had this one a while ago, i think (trying to remember) after trying all sorts of stuff it turned out that one of the function keys had been pressed.

18th March 2010, 04:20 PM #5 Try booting it with a liveCD, Ubuntu, or even a Vista or 7 setup dvd to check and make sure that it is an OS problem.
If it is an OS issue you could try this if XP
Keyboard stops working in XP - Windows-XP-General-Discussion - Windows-XP
Another thing to try is to delete the KBoard driver in Hidden device (in
Hardware manager/ Show hidden devices) since XP keeps a copy of any driver
it needs to boot. Might be a corrupted one so it will reinstall from CD or
CAB.
Or if it is Vista or above a sysprep /generalize may well force it to reinstall the correct interface stuff.
It could also be a driver IRQ conflict if XP which you may be able to test by disabling everything not completely necessary in the BIOS temporarily like the sound card, etc. If it is then you will need to mess with the IRQs in windows which is not fun.
Short of that a repair install for XP or fresh reinstall may be the only options remaining.

22nd March 2010, 03:19 PM #6 Right, following on from my Ghost without keyboard and mouse thread i got annoyed and just decided to reinstall windows.
Keyboard and mouse still not working in windows...
Is it possible for it to be a hardware error!? Even though it works in BIOS?
