This is rapidly turning into a FFS thread..

I got a voicemail on my landline yesterday (after being in school all day) from Jay at Propos but trying to call it today has given me "this mobile phone is switched off" everytime so I've reached the conclusion that Propos are a waste of time and space.

Unfortunately my contact in Germany is on a plane but with a little luck I'll hear from him tomorrow..

If you find that alternative contact meastaugh1.. I'm all ears..

    Morning,

We've now received our two C-6200Us from Millgate Computer Systems Ltd www.millgate.co.uk 01709 786280.

Units were £68 each and £12 delivery.

Thanks for that... I've been at my wits end with these jokers... I swear they don't want to sell me anything.

Propos were totally useless and frankly need to be shot for their cr*p service.. and the contact who was supposed to call today didn't... so I guess I'll try those guys and see what happens..

    Thanks for the info...

Finally!!... Good grief but this has been a trial..

Millgate sadly turned out to be unable to help, no idea why but they said they couldn't help me despite my assurances that at least one person on here had bought from them.. 8O

So after some false start I have now found an outlet for these printservers that doesn't involve taking hostages 8)

    Headway Technology Group,
(a Division of ACAL IT Ltd.)
    ACAL House,
    Redfields Business Park,
    Church Crookham,
    Hampshire,
    GU52 0RD

    Switchboard : 01252 858585
    Fax: 01252 858244

Contact you need to speak to is either Robert or Sue Hibbert

Current price is around £57+VAT and a flat rate delivery charge of around £15 IIRC..

Hope that saves someone else from a seriously long winded and unnecessary pain in the patookus

    Re: Printservers & Canon printers

Just to revive this thread a little with some new intel..

On a whim I tested an old Linksys 300U printserver by connecting a Canon iP4200 to the USB port on the printserver... Surprisingly it will handle the printjob but it won't pass back any communication from the printer so it's the equivalent of a printer with bidirectional communication turned off..

    Re: Printservers & Canon printers

Hi at home I am using a canon i865 it has a netgear parallel port print server. I found it had issues with the supplied software printing pictures. So I had to add print service for unix and then you add an LPR port and just put in the right IP address and port no. This now works really well and all machines can now print pictures to it, but it is only unidirectional.

Adding to this thread some months down the line I have a few nuggets to share.

First off, I've been using five 6200U print server units now for a year and they've been performing perfectly.

They work with pretty much any Pixma (tested with iP4200/4300/5200) and the multifunctional units as well (tested with MP500) including the ability to share the scanner functionality.

What's particularly impressed me with these and Canons (over my original HP 3200en printservers & Epson printers) was that they recover incredibly well from power outages.

Take the Canons ability to autopower on and off with the printservers regular polling of the printer to make sure it's working and you just get a system that keeps on working.

Last bit of intel... The latest reseller I found have a special on (this week only I believe) for the 6700WG wireless/wired units @ 65 + delivery and VAT compared to 62 for the 6200U versions. Well worth a look if you have Canon Pixma inkets and were looking at sharing them on the network.
