Bit of advice needed.
I've got three acer Travelmate 230 XC laptops which have duff mobos.
Is there anyway I can get them going without paying out more than they are worth?
Any suggestions gratefully received![]()

Sorry, how does that help me?
I have of course researched repairers etc, and that is the problem - it seems to be uneconomic to repair them
Which is why I asked - some clever edugeeker might have a solution or a source to help.
Keep an eye out on ebay and places like www.pchub.com for replacement mobo's and then replace them yourself. If I rememeber correctly, the 230, 270, 530 (and possibly some others) share the same chassis and casing so you could always swap the innards for those of a later model. The 230 also uses the extremly popular AU Optronics UB141X03 (B141NX04) LCD panel as used in many Acer models so you could always keep them for spares.

We are in a similar position with a couple of out of warranty Dell Latitude D600s, replacement boards were approx same price as a used D600 on EBAY. I did wonder about looking for cheap D600s with duff screens through EBAY & cannibalising them but decided we would keep ours as spares to repair other D600s we have.

thanks for the site - will look for a replacement mobo - had tried ebay but no go.
Probably a bit of a naff suggestion here since you have already researched it but if you go here :
http://www.motherboardrepair.com/mother_board_repair.do
They do a motherboard repair service but it looks like they are based in the US ( maybe they could point you in the right direction for the correct ones which are in the UK )
Short of that you could always try www.yell.com LOL
I have just had 2 Dell D600s repaired. 1 new MoBo 1 new screen hinge.
I found a company called ClonesUK near our school in Portmouth.
Their website address is www.clonesuk.co.uk
Their price for a MoBo was about 1/2 the Dell price.
They also were quick and efficient.
