One of my schools wants to have a mobile smartboard (wished they'd asked last week) and the standard rear projection jobby on wheels is £7K
Anyone using a cheaper alternative -Ultra Short Throw front projector on normal board maybe?

Don't smart make overlays for LCD/plasma? Mount the screen on a wheely stand et voila!

The SB660i3 with Short throw projector comes in at about £2.5k, and you can get a floor stand for it - i'm sure it won't come to £5k for a stand...

That's what I would go with. £1,700-£2,500 for the board overlay (depending on the size) + flatscreen + trolley should come in considerably under £7k.
Check the list of compatible flatscreens on the Smart site: SMART - SMART Board for Flat-Panel Displays interactive overlay,300 series specifications

A 50" NEC screen with Smart overlay came to around £3k last I checked IIRC. So a decent stand/trolley would come to a few hundred quid.
But remember, the overlay system uses battery powered pens - not the same type as a normal smart board. (It works using cameras to detect where the pens are much like a wii-mote).

We have a spare set of wheels for a 500 series smartboard. PM me if you are interested.
Selectasize.com do a mobile solution called Powerpoint Presenter which is a Sanyo XL50 Ultra short throw mounted on a height adjustable Unicol trolley with a 70" Dry Wipe board for £1995 ex vat. We've got 3 in use at the moment with smartboards mounted and teachers seem happy with them. Need to check door/lift dimensions if you want to move them between floors as they don't drop that low down.

Do you mean you've got the "Premier Version Wireless" at £3495?

Simon - no, never been convinced of the benefit of wireless Projectors, our teacher's tablets connect via Aruba 802.11n wireless AP's so I'd rather the final link was hardwired. We got the Portaboard Economy with 77" Smartboard for £3,015 ex vat.
Not sure where you are, but Selectasize will drop off a demo unit for a week if you want to look at one. If they're going to be moved over solid/hard flooring make sure you get the rubber wheels - default spec are plastic wheels which are fine on carpet but no good on hard surfaces.

That's the sort of thing Im after (there web site is a nightmare - web 0.8 I'd sayWe got the Portaboard Economy with 77" Smartboard for £3,015 ex vat.)
Any chance you could get your tape measure out and let me know the height so I can see if it'll go through my doorways please?

BTW - marvelous info from a newcomer![]()

I've got about 3 myself hidden away in basements from when the 1st ones were mobile (but sans projector which made them impractable in real lifeWe have a spare set of wheels for a 500 series smartboard. PM me if you are interested.)

SMS do an electric height adjustable mobile stand. the projector arm folds to the side and board lowers when moving through doors. That may work?
Simon - cheers, been lurking for a while and got a lot of good stuff out of the forum. I checked the measurements of the room we had trouble with and we can get the unit through an opening - Height 196.5 cm x Width 77.5 cm. The Selectasize techs can adjust the projector mount to vary this, but this was at the lower end of the adjustment, so it won't go through anything much lower than that.

Got a link for the SMS board please?
