A drum on one of our OKI C5650's has gone today, it was the black (K) and had done 11816 pages. Is this a good number of pages for a £40 drum?

The page yield on that drum is 20k pages, it does depend on what your printing (page coverage and stuff)
Should also mention that that was with the drum that came with the printer. Dunno if that is of any real significance.
the toners & inks that come with printers are usually a lower yield, but the drums usually arn't!
I'm not so sure that would apply for a drum but I could be wrong... Toner, fuser, etc... yes, but the drum is more related to the actual number of rotations rather than coverage.
Doesn't sound entirely unreasonable as an output yield though when you remember that the marketing blurb and reality are often quite different. You could try contacting a service center for Oki and check whether that's a minimum yield to be sure.
It seems reasonable to me, seeing as it was the exams/assement officer, pretty much all she did was print reports from it.
