11th January 2010, 10:58 AM #1 Sun 7110 config backup Is there a way to backup and export the configuration of a 7110? I'd like it if I had the config so I could roll back changes or transfer settings to an identical unit. I can't see anything in the admin guide.
Cheers.

I've looked in there and I don't see that. Near the top right I see 'Initial Setup' and 'Factory Reset' buttons. Where should I see the backup button?
Thanks.

Indeed it does Maybe it didn't appear untill a certain update as you can see we're on the 4/2009 release as we use iSCSI and it's a big change on later firmware.
This is how may page looks. http://cid-f4ce58c43b93e057.skydrive...Public/sun.jpg
11th January 2010, 01:33 PM #6 hmm, you can do it from the CLI as well, but I don't know if it's available on your firmware. May have to bite the iscsi bullet

Yep it's penciled in for the next holiday, of course i'd like to be able to do the backup before I do the massive upgrade

Sorry to say that upgrade has to come first prior to you being able to backup the configuration.
FYI, we have a leading UK based mobile phone provider to thank for the RFE on this one...
Cheers,
Phil
PS Am at BETT on Thursday afternoon but looking at the weather outside (4ft drifts in the village) I might not be in a suit :-)
11th January 2010, 02:28 PM #9 Thanks for the reply Phil. Can you tell me if there is an update available that will provide the backup function without going as far as the new iSCSI stack?

2009.Q3 release featured this.
So, any of the current releases will give you this capability. As for the new iSCSI stuff that kinda came too in 2009.Q3 - sorry :-(

Ok thanks Phil. Am I likely to run into problems with my iSCSI setup if I go to that release. Anything that I need to be aware of?
11th January 2010, 04:37 PM #12 none that I'm aware of. Should just be a simple upgrade process. If you can, however, backup your data before doing the upgrade (that's the old StorageTek in me coming out)
has anyone else on here had "iSCSI issues" when going to 2009.Q3 ?
Regards,
Phil
13th January 2010, 06:04 PM #13 It does loose the iSCSI initiator configuration during the upgrade.
The way iSCSI initiators are configured is slightly different, just need to get your head around the changes.

Ah great all of my Xenserver VM's are on there so it's pretty important.
What am I likely to have to do after the update just resetup the iSCSI connections?
Thanks.

Yes, in Q3 you have a new tab under "Configuration" labelled SAN. You need to define target groups and initiator groups.
Target Group - iqn for storage (s7000)
Initiator groups - iqn of hosts (Xen Servers)
I would recommended using the S7000 simulator first just so you get your head round it.
