Dell Inspiron 1520 - Cant reinstall
Got a Dell Inspiron 1520 running Windows XP home
I am trying to reinstall from the recovery disks. The install starts ok but part way through the screen blanks and nothing can be done to revive it. The keyboard is still working as I can get the caps lock light to go on and off. I have tried an external display and it shows nothing. To power the machine off you have to hold the power button down. Then when you power it back up you still get no display the only way I have found to get it to power up is to disconnect the mains/battery and leave it disconnected for about 10 minutes.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a special re-installation procedure I need to follow or is this a hardware fault of some kind. Dell have just swapped keyboard/motherboard due to a keys not working problem, but I was already having problems re-installing XP home before this so I guess its not a motherboard fault.

Don't Dell have a secret restore partition or is that not on laptops? Try slowly hitting F11 during boot up.
I think it was supposed to be done when you get a info message at the top of a black screen after BIOS, something to do with Dell and it's version then you press F11 and get access, but slowly hitting from start might work.
If not, there's a Dell man, somewhere on the forums...

Im not getting any restore options with F11 or in the boot menu there is a diagnostics option which I am now running.
