Motherboard manufacturer warranty
We have a computer which we only got 12 months warranty on (was a one-off, funds where tight at the time), and it seems the motherboard is now faulty, when the computer is just 18months old.
It's an Intel motherboard, and according to their site it seems that they offer a 3 year limited warranty on them. Question is, even though the computer was built and shipped to us, are we able to make any claims against the Intel warranty, or is that only valid for the original hardware builder?

Generaly speaking your contract is with the company you bought the kit from, not the manufacturer. Also even though the Intel mother boards sold direct to the public have a 3 year warranty it doesn't mean the OEM ones sold to system builders do. I know for a fact that OEM CPUs only have a 1 year warranty (retail ones have a 3 year warranty).

nothing to loose by asking them

I personally would go via Intel, as far as I am aware the seller is only obliged to look after for a standard 12 months, and any extra warranty is honoured by the manufacturer, I could be wrong but straight to intel would be the quickest way.

I decided to do some more digging and found this link, and unfortunaely I found where it says:
I guess that pretty much ends that idea then - most frustrating! Thanks for the responses though.
Wholesale products are not sold in retail boxes and are typically pre-installed by a system manufacturer (ex. HP*, Dell*, Gateway*) or reseller. Intel does not
provide direct warranty support for wholesale products.
