Things that make you go d'oh!

So I am setting up my new HP Proliant ML350.

I unlocked the front door, slide in the HP disks into the array and.....the front door now doesn't close as the disks protrude too much due to the removal mechanism Do'h!

What has made you go d'oh recently?

Not leaving any space at the bottom of a rack when I put all the servers in. Now got a 1U server near the bottom being replaced by the manufacturer with a 2U unit , with not enough space left at the top to fit the new server and the bits that attatch to it

Having already walked down 4 flights of stairs on the other side of the building to install a phone on a new socket,
firstly not taking any cat5 with me, (walk back up, and back down)
then realising I had also forgotten my cab keys.

One that I seem to do time and time again getting a remote windows PC to release/renew it's DHCP lease. Open up the command prompt type ipconfig /release, hit enter and then realise what I've done

Always forget to use ipconfig /release && ipconfig /renew!

the giant magnet in the hard disk isn't for sticking it to the front of the case!

Hehe, I think this could turn into our version of Ars 'Server Room' forum 'What did you learn today?' thread.

Found out today Sun S7000 clustering is via SAS, not Fibre or Ethernet, which made my plan of clustering SANs between opposite sides of the site a little tricky.

Similar to Soulfish, I once disabled what I thought was a spare server NIC over RDP, then very quickly realised that was actually the NIC I was connected to the server on.

I was setting up a fancy network printer with a touchscreen once and used it to RDP to the print server to set up the printer share, the server popped up with 'Do you want to restart for Windows Updates now?' and my prodding at the small touchscreen hit Yes instead of No. Cue a phonecall to my boss telling him printers would be down for the next five minutes!

Ordered some extra harddisks for some Dell servers, and then realising that we then needed the proper caddies to install them.

False alarm, I thought you could take the HDs out of their caddies and put them in the ones that came with the server.

Anyway, the caddies of the supplied disks stick out further than the caddies that were in the server when it came, hence the door not shutting.

Don't get me started on that, I wanted the rackmount but we couldn't afford it.
