Anyone got one of these notebooks?
I'm looking at one for a friend, it's got an AMD Turion X2 Dual Core processor and 3Gb RAM and It's running Vista SP1. It's dog slow. It's been restored to factory and had all of the crud removed including AV software at the moment but it's still slow (I'm not talking the usual quirky Vista slow here).
I'm going to update all of the drivers to the latest versions next. It's only a few months old I told them to take it back but they bought it from Comet and they say it's an Acer problem who can only suggest restoring it to factory 'again'. I think we'll be following that up
Can anyone suggest anything else to try?

28th October 2009, 02:48 PM #4 Hmmm I've put the latest sound drivers on and now the sound crackles, I can see a post about that here.

I think this model might just be a bit of a nail.
EDIT
Well got to the botom of some of it. The Acer ePower software keeps turning the CPU down to minimum even when pluged in. I've managed to fix it to maximum when plugged in and the crackly sound has gone and it's a little but faster
not blistering but it's an improvement.

28th October 2009, 03:31 PM #5 Did you also check the hard disk speed/condition... I've seen laptops before with failing hard drives (dropped?) and they've just run dog slow.

28th October 2009, 03:56 PM #6 It passed a checkdisk. TBH now that the CPU is turned up and i've applied SP2 it seems much better.
