    External HDD capacity

When I plug my external HDD into the workstation (or server) at school the capacity displays at slightly less than 500Gb, which is correct. However, when plugged into my home computer I can only see 232Gb, which incidentally is the displayed size of the internal HDD.

I want to use the external as a backup drive in preparation for a Win7 installation, so the displayed size is not really a problem. But why is it not showing the full capacity?
