Thanks for posting these and some of the others you've pointed us to as well!
Andy (Cutter) / Phil (Sun) - How easily are these being made available to customers? The MS Windows integration documentation is something a lot of customers will benefit from before they get started with the S7000. If Sun aren't able to include them with the box, is it something suppliers could be sending out, even if it's just a list of links to these 'best practices' files?
Chris
Will there be a similar document or features for Xenserver?
Another guide, maybe even closer to edugeek's heart

Speaking as Sun Reseller/Supplier/Consultant, we create our own internal "best practices" documents and these are WTL's "Crown Jewels".
WTL have installed S7000 in to many different customers, all requiring different features (LDAP ID Mapping/FTP Server/Remote Site Snapshot Backups/ESX DR Recovery/Archive storage...) this varied experiences help WTL build a constantly evolving “best practise” documentation.
Sun over the years have published blueprints and reference articles, which I read regularly to improve WTL's internal documentation. We also learn from our customer experiences and feedback that information. As with any product there is documentation/manuals but they never impart knowledge on which is best practice.
Ie NFS or iSCSI for ESX, NDMP backup or CIFS mount to Backup Exec.......
This knowledge is a key differentiator between us and our competitors, so sorry not going to give it away.
But happy to point out any information freely available to all.
Andy

Video of a a presentation on DTrace and S7000 by [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Cantrill"]Bryan Cantrill[/ame], one the key guys behind the S7000.
This guy is extremely passionate about DTrace, which along with Kstats is the power behind Sun Analytics.

Currently you have EXADATA v2 on Sun, but I'm sure we will see some more Oracle/Sun appliances.
Must admit those Exadata boxes do look nice. I wish they'd do a low-end version for SMB's to run their Exchange and SQL servers from!
Thanks for the vid, DTrace vs PerfMon is a reason alone to move from Windows to S7000 for storage...
Brendan Gregg has produced yet another excellent blog post, this time on iSCSI performance. After reading this I think we should all go out and buy 10Gbe !
iSCSI before and after : Brendan Gregg
Mmmmm 10Gbe. If only we could afford that![]()
