We have a Vaio VGN-FS415E laptop with a replacement Hard drive. With a clean install of XP everything works fine besides the keyboard, which doesn't work at all.
We have no recovery CD, and obviously the recovery partition was on the knackerd HDD.
Has anyone any ideas, or better still, a recovery CD? Sony want £37 for one!
Does the keyboard work in the BIOS, or with a linux recovery CD? I would be inclined to think its hardware failure rather than a driver issue :s
Works fine in the BIOS. It's a known issue with some vaio's apparently, but not been able to figure it out!
Pluggin in a USB keyboard works? Have you checked to make sure that all of the keyboard is knackered? It could be the ribbon if the hard drive replacement required removal of the body of the laptop
Yes, USB keyboard works, as does the normal keyboard of a Hirens disk etc.
How weird!! There is a BIOS update for the unit on the Sony site, also a whole host of drivers but i'm guessing they have already been installed :s
Yes, all drivers and BIOS update done. We've had this problem before 2 or 3 years ago, and none of us can remember how we fixed it!
