I have an old Elonex Laptop (CY27) belonging to a partially sighted child that I need to get onto our network.
I dont have the admin password and I cannot seem to change the boot order so that I can boot off a password cracker disc.
I cannot get into the bios and I believe if I could there is a Bios password?
Can anyone help me??

Remove the harddrive and place it in an external caddy, then run a password cracker on it.

11th September 2009, 12:38 AM #5 Can you boot from another device (eg: usb)?
Most devices can also over ride the boot order when powering on unless disabled in the bios, iirc it's either F2 or F12 on dell machines so maybe try some of them.

11th September 2009, 02:44 AM #6 What OS is the laptop running?
If its XP Sp 2 or older you can do an easy privlage escalation trick:
1) Open Command propt, type in: at [the time in 24hr fromat + 1 minuet] /interactive "cmd.exe"
2) Open task manager and kill explorer.exe
3) At the time you specified a commandpromt should open at "C:\windows\system32" and say scvhost.exe at the top (where it normaly says cmd.exe)
4) In the command prompt box that just opend restart explorer.exe (type "cd .." then "explorer.exe")
Now when you click on the start bar you should have "System" at the top instead of your username.
EDIT: I think you need to allready be a power user for this to work.
Now you can reset the local admin password.
(Maybe this should be moved to secrity?)

11th September 2009, 10:18 AM #7 I can't log on AT ALL so I can't reset anything -if I could log on all would be well
I don't have another laptop that is the same so moving the drive is not doable
Ditto to a caddy for the drive
I can't find the cmos battery
I've tried every single F key (including 'F off' and FFS!)
It won't boot from anything!!

CmosPwd - CGSecurity
As for the admin password you should be able to use trinity rescue kit
Trinity Rescue Kit | CPR for your computer

It doesn't have to be the same, you just need to have a laptop available to put the harddrive in and boot that laptop from a CD.
