Laptop came with Vista changed to XP Home Edition, needed to put a clean copy of XP Home struggling with finding the right drivers. Been on Acer Website but Audio drivers keep failing and getting a dark screen when plugged into mains. Any ideas?![]()

does the fn + brightness adjuster not work?
also can you not set the brightness in the bios?
if it's really dark, maybe the backlight is failing, but that would be dark all the time including when you first crank it up.

yeah first point of call would be check that the FN + Brightness Key is working, and see if that can go any higher.
i wouldn't of thought it was the backlight, as like the guy above said it would have to be dark all the time.

sometimes the acer stuff has it's own power management stuff as well, might want to check for a green battery need the clock and might be brightness settings on that to. Above comments seem spot on to boot![]()

Thanks everyone for yoiur advice, tried fn + no change and also went into screen saver settings which was set to 3 minutes so changed it to never. Problem still there so guess I will try and source antother battery and put another copy of XP and make sure I have all the right drivers.

Janey Before you do any of that i would recommend you speak to Richard on here from Acer-Outlet, he would be your best bet as he would know if this has been a fault before and may even be able to speak to Acer for you.

Good idea, your best to take it to a laptop repair company to get it checked out otherwise your going to be spending money on an issue that is either serious hardware or having one of those moments. The fact the screens ok on battery and not on charge suggests something along the above lines not something you can casualy replace.
