Can anybody recommend a single AP for use on a trolley? It'll have to cope with the power being knocked on and off and that sorta thing, but will need to sustain 15ish laptops...
Thanks
Kyle

What wireless system do you have in place at the moment? MANAGED/UNMANAGED?
We've got a sort of unmanaged 3com setup for Teacher laptops. It can't handle the throughput of 15 laptops and we're looking for a quick solution.
We use netgear WG302's for small wireless deployments and they cope fine with trolleys of 16 laptops. Just make sure its on a different channel to all your other access points if your going to be moving it around the school with the trolley.
Not sure where in the country you are, but i'm pretty sure i've got a couple of spare ones in the office if you wanted to try one out before you get one.
Steve.

Ah right i see, so you dont have the money for a managed solution then. i've found the Linksys AP's to be very good as a Single AP. Just remember to have it on a different channel to any AP's surrounding the area.
you might want to look at getting a managed system, speak to Net-CTRL i am sure they will be happy to advise you.. it shouldn't cost you that much, and you could have it over a few years.. once you have the controller just buy AP's and licences yearly until your site is convered

Yeah we had Mark Power down earlier in the year.. and id love to ring him up and say we'll buy.. unfortunately we're not in the position I hoped we'd be in.

Oh rightthats a shame... we're hoping we will be able to move away from our Aruba Managed system to Ruckus later this year

i'll keep our old managed system in mind for you
James.
Ordered a netgear 802.11a jobo.. hopefully wont cause interface with other kit.
Thanks guys.

Or give us a shout for Ruckus if your looking to make a great saving,![]()
