    Additional Network Storage

What do you guys think of this for a rackmountable storage server.

Custom Build 2u short 6TB Raid 5 System. - Racksurf , Rackmount cases, Rackmount systems, 1u,2,3u,4u,5u, rackmount systems, rackqueen, custom server, bespoke server

I am thinking of either putting on freenas or openfiler. There maybe a possiblity of sticking either server 2003 or 2008 on.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Also has anyone bought from these guys?

    Thanks

Cheap, sure, but it looks like it'll lack several key features of a storage server.

Hotswap, multiple LAN ports, a dedicated controller for the RAID array (with large cache), 3 year or more warranty.

I'd say it will be fine for low use storage (so, something like a backup array), but not for storing home drives etc... on.

    Ah right,

Well I have not bought anything like this before. So can people point me in the right direction??

Basically it will be used to store our public resources and our staff resources. Maybe some backup data, before being copied over to our storage on the other side of the school site.

I'm looking at something like this now and I'm comparing the HP DL185 G5 with 12TB RAW for about £6750 and the NEC Express5800/120Rh for about £6295.

What is the current situation with NEC in regards to ownership/support, anyone know?

NEC Servers are still UK stuff, but TBH I would be wary about buying any Server product from them as its still part of the computing arm that was, there display business is booming I beleive so thats safe but I'd be wary.

Have a look at the Sun S7000 series of storage, there are a good few of us on here that have got them (or in my case ordered it at last ) and its a very amazing tool very much worth looking at! The features for the future sell it to me
