    Laptop with VGA screw connectors

    Hello,

I am looking for a laptop to use with the AV setup in our hall. The main problem I've come across is noone seems to make laptops with VGA connectors that have the holes to screw the plug into.

This is quite a small issue for most laptop users, which means that they don't put it as part of the spec, so I have been searching around, and squinting at product photos to see if I can tell.

Has anyone bought a laptop recently which has screws on the VGA connector?

Oh, and does anyone know why on earth manufactures have stopped putting them on, seems ridiculous to me.

    Thanks,

    David

How about a VGA video card that has them on? Then you'll have two monitors and can do split power point presentations etc.

Edit: I meant a USB video card, sorry.

That was going to be my last resort, but I'd really rather have it built-in. Besides, laptops can do split-screen using the built-in VGA port.

All the Dell Latitude D-series laptops definitely have screw connectors, and from the product photos it looks like the newer E-series have them too, albeit slightly disguised.

Also, I think you answered your own question about why they've taken them off:

Most people don't care, and they save a little bit of money not having to put them on.

IMO Laptops with no screws are the way to go. Means no more faulty VGA connections when the screws have been lost due to over tightening, then casuing the conector to move and fail.

All of the hp business line that I have encountered have them:

I think that it is more the home line ones that don't have them which helps if you knock the plug as it is more likely to just pull out rather than snap the port off the motherboard and/or send the laptop flying.

That is the old style HP Business Notebooks, all the current range I have seen have the non-screw on ones, that style was last years style from what I can remember, but there may still be the odd one floating around that has them. Maybe down-under HP are a year behind on style?

At least, we still can't get DL380 G6 (s) and we just got a shipment of 10 of those laptops a couple of weeks ago brand new from the laptops for teachers lease scheme.
