I'm just playing with one of our new X4150 boxes that will be running Xensever, I created a RAID 1 mirror but couldn't see a way to configure one of the two spare disks to be a hot spare. I then added a third disk to the array and the RAID 1 option was gone and replaced with RAID 1E. I've had a read online and RAID 1E seems to be a non standard RAID that allows for the failure of more than one disk.
Anyone using this setup on their X4150 i'm unfamiliar with it (other than I can see it's a variation of RAID 10), or can someone tell me how to configure a hot spare with a RAID 1 array?
Cheers.

2nd June 2009, 02:13 PM #2 Hi Grant,
I've just tried this on a X4140 I have and it seems to work, might be worth having a look. (I too ended up with RAID1E when picking 3 disks for the array)
I created an array using 2 disks and saved it. I then went to manage arrays and pressed CTRL + S "manage failover drive assignments" and was able to select one of the other disks in there.
Hope this helps.
Kim.

2nd June 2009, 03:05 PM #3 I'll take a look at that thanks.
Just as a side note can you tell me if the RAID controller has battery backed cache or is it an extra?
