Does Anyone use the HP 6730s Laptops? if so do anyone have the Lan Speed working at gigabit? The only driver it accepts on ours is just the Fast Ethernet one and not gigabit.
We have XP on the laptop not vista.
Thanks

Off topic, but has this laptop got a loud fan? I was considering getting one until a few reviews said that they sound similar to a hair dryer.
I would guess that the gigabit driver doesn't work with XP. also, check the cable we have a few cables here that will only work at 100MB and not gigabit
I use a 6730s here on my desk and I cant hear a thing out of it. Really nice, solid laptop. I think most of the guys in the office have these.
Hope this helps
Can't remember which model (I used to work on LOADS of HP kit in my last job) but it may have been those that I had to do a bios flash before the LAN would work.
If you know exactly what the interface is I'd suggest going to the broadcom/realtek/intel website and downloading their driver for it instead.

I'm using a 6715b at the moment and that is whisper quiet compared to others. I turned of fingerprint recognition because it didn't work very well and I tend to rest my palm on the reader. All of the cr@p HP bundle with their computers is a pain but Toshiba isn't much better.

Hi,
Which chipset do you have?
From HP's site here implying that only some models have Gigabit.Marvell Ethernet PCI Controller (10/100 NIC) GL and GM chipset, Marvell Ethernet PCI Controller (10/100/1000 NIC) for PM Chipset only
Hey,
I use the HP 6730s and the 6720s aswell,
I prefer the 6720s for some reason (no justifiable reason) just seem to prefer it, The 6730 on mine doesnt run at GigaBit only 100mb and the fan loudness....not noticably, only noticed it yesterday but it had been on a carpeted floor which it was being formatted...whoops! but hey thats normal for any laptop!
But they are both nice solid laptops!
Cheers,
Mart

Hi Simon,
We have around 30 Tosh Satellites and they have been fine so far. Some are around a year old. I'm reluctant to tempt fate and say we have had no problems but apart from the odd niggle when connected to projectors they are fine. I'm probably going to need some more next term, we have used Misco in the past but I will give you a crack at it![]()
