They use to come with the mice and keyboards but i haven't seen any in awhile.
Yes - they used to be quite often in the box for mice/keyboards. (Not sure if other devices would work).
If you've got any unopened boxes lying around I'd take a look. I'd offer to post one, but with postage rates these days...
Damn, should read, PS2 to USB
I know you can get a convertor for usb mouse to plug into a ps2 port

(If its not possible it means loading the Library software onto another pc!)
Check eBay, there's quite a few for around a quid. Whether the scanner will work is another question - but I guess it's worth a punt!.
Do you mean a library barcode scanner by any chance? This might just work with a simple USB converter as all it's doing is emulating sending keystrokes - I never had much joy mixing and matching different peripherals USB adapters though. If it's an image scanner, very very doubtful that it will work.

If it's a barcode scanner I treid this once with one of those keyboard/mouse ps/2 to usb adapters and it didn't work.
Ben

It depends on the hardware, for it to work it must understand PS2 signals. The little adapters don't actually change anything they just change the type of plug and it is up to the hardware to realise that it is on ps2 and talk to the system in the right way.
Not all mice and keyboards support this so if it did not come with an adapter like this it will not work. As to the scanner, if it is a flatbed then definatly not, is it is a barcode scanner that came with such an adapter then it probably will.
CPC sell various models, either a dongle type for keyboards/mice or a more advanced one for things like barcode scanners (altho I have had luck once with one, but it emulated a keyboard so it worked with a keyboard adaptor - note too, that KEYBOARD PS2 and MOUSE PS2 are sometimes wired differently depending on manufacturer, so sometimes using the correct type, i.e. keyboard for keyboard type devices, or moose for mice type, works better than genericly taking the green mouse one off a MS mouse).

If this is a bar code scanner - ours has a splitter cable shared with the keyboard (or it could be the mouse I always get them mixed up when I strip the kit to clean it)
Yes they exist, whether it'll work though depends on the scanner.

That could be tha answer thanks somabc.
It is a Scanner device but although I have given them a new PC with only USB ports, they have bought a new scanner for the Library PC but the librarian does a stock check using the mobile scanner, this is still PS2, worst case involves setting up another PC for this stock check!
