    optiplex 210L memory upgrades

these dell optiplex come with 1 stick of pc2-4200u (512mb)

we got a couple of 1gb sticks to upgrade it with. these are labelled as truedata 1gb ddr2-533 ecc

they dont seem to work in the dell. just a bunch of beeps then nothing

they do work in a fujitsu esprimo p2530

the 1gb stick of DDR2-667 from the fujitsu didnt work in the dell either.

official dell memory upgrades are listed as
    1GB Dell Dimension/OptiPlex PC2-4200 non-ECC DDR2-533 DIMM

just noticed one is ecc one is non-ecc

maybe dell doesnt support ecc!? anyone know?

You answered your own question, ECC is for servers or really high end desktops and is not supported by most general use computer gear.

Are ouy installing the ecc memory alongside the non-ecc?

If so take out the non-ecc and it should boot.

no we'd taken out the 1x512 and tried to replace it with 2 x 1gb.

Not sure about the memory you have but you would be better off getting memory from Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com as they have a memory scanner utility and or you can select from drop down menus which make, model of machine you have and will return the exact memory you need.
