The technology department is looking for 2 A4 scanners with a budget of £100 each.
My supplier has recommended a LiDE 500F which I have never heard of.
Can anyone comment on these scanners or suggest some alternatives?
Cheers

Epson and HP are decent. Also have some cheap and cheerful UMAX scanners which do the job too.

I've always sworn by the LiDE 20 (which may have been supersceeded by the LiDE 25). Nevfer really seen the point in anything 'better'. The result from these are more than adequate and scanned at 1200dpi your printers aren't going to do the scanned images justice anyway.
i had an issue with an cheap HP printer, i just wanted to install the TWAIN driver for the scanner and then use other software to control the scanner....
But HP didnt just release the TWAIN driver for that scanner, and i had to install about 300MB worth of there products.... if you dont have a problem with this then thats cool.... and HP do, do decent scanners
I agree with Ric_ I have no problems at all with the canon scanners I have here.
currently sat next too canoscan 4200f, works brilliantly, highly recommend the lide20/25 expecially love the fact its power is provided via usb no need for seperate power supply, which makes it ideal for use in the classroom moving from computer to computer.
we did buy two that just for some reason stopped working, scanner wasnt recognised and scanner light wudnt move. they were lide20's

I like Canon scanners lots, and have brought 2 for my own use over the years.
I vote for the LiDE 25s too, ive used several, the best bit was i used a driver pack that allowed me to preinstall the scanner so it could be used on any comp in the school by anyone, pair that up with front mounted USB ports and no external PSU needed and it became very attractive. You could buy about 6 for £200 too probably.

Another vote for the Canon's. You can pick them up for about £40 and are well worth the money.
Canon here - Lide 30
Andy
We have a nice canon one here... only cost about 40 quid, runs off USB power, nice scans, does everything we'd expect really.

Canon again here HP ones are nice too but for the price and performance the Canon's win. Think we got some 3200F's and some lide's
Ben

Another vote for Canon, Lide 30 for me please

I use Canon Lides as well (bought about 20 in last year).
They give excellent scans and they are not memory gulpers like the last 4 HP I installed before switching to Canons.
I just install the basics - I never install any extras and just use my normal applications to launch the scanner interface.
regards
Simon
Cannon Lide 35 is what i've got at home...but i think we've got the 30's at school.
Cannon must be raking it in!
