I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't find it.
My boss wants to buy those RM One machines- where the whole thing is together, monitor and all. Does anyone have any experience of these?
I think he just like RM but I am not keen.

These have been discussed beofre on the site and better alternatives put forward. I can't just find the topic at the moment though.
RM kindly lonaed us a few for the conference and whilst there was nothing 'wrong' with them as such, they did not strike me as anything special. They are certainly over-priced for what they are.
I think that the suggestions for alternatives included models from HP and Dell where the base was mounted behind the TFT on a special bracket.

problem with rm like quite few companies is to get decent price have to phone them
as for ones ok not bad they are very good at being vandel proof hard screen (not going to break it and if do you need some force), vnadel proof paint so very hard to write and stick stickers on...
Also first release were not very good but the new version is lot better...
also exo-quite ones not bad and are very quite??

Thanks
I think he is getting them with the Tesco vouchers - so I don't have a lot of clout - I just wanted to know if there was anything awful about them that I needed to flag up quickly!
I will wait and see what they are like.
RM ones are pretty good in terms of usage within school. Complete pain to open and fix it yourself when it runs out of warranty.
We had one survive an attempted smash and grab through a window. Got one out by cutting through the leads, the other they tried pulling closer and it fell over and off the desk so they couldn't get it. WE did a half hearted start so we could tell teh insurance cmopany it was a write off and it started up and works fine. Only imperfection is a scuff mark in one corner that could probably be buffed out! Part from that no problems that come to mind
We have a music cluster of them due to space issues and are going ot them in all our IT rooms this term as they had stupidly narrow benches put in when first built.
Can't compare and contrast with anything else though.
We've got quite a few of them and to be honest, they can't be faulted. I can see that they could be a pain if they go wrong and you don't have a service contract with RM.
Blimey did you rob Tescos? How on earth did you get enough vouchers to be buying even one PC?Originally Posted by ITWITCH

Looks like the kids from my school must be tesco voucher gangsters as we have enough to get 3!
We're estimating ours at about 10,000, that could buy nearly 1/2 a computer![]()
Chris

We do have enough for two, and this is only a first school (4-9). I don't know how they get so many, it's a mystery to me too!

I know through contacts that RM are finding competition for hardware very fierce at the moment so you may well be able to haggle a very good price with them plus if you are ordering quite a few they sometimes throw in extra software like auditor 1.2 and rm Tutor 3 if you have a CC3 network that is.
