I have a Toshiba A300 laptop that has now got two of the function keys separated from the keyboard (don't ask me how it happened, it just appeared with an apology from the teacher). Had a look, but the mechanism under the key that connects the key to to the keyboard is broken. I know there is usually a lot of damage reported to laptop keys on here, so has anyone got two spare keys from a Toshiba Sat Pro (would think most of the current models would have the same mechanism). I have the keys just not the working mechanisms.

9th February 2009, 11:23 AM #2 If keys are pulled off here and we can't re-attach with what we have lying around, the department/teacher gets billed for a new keyboard (approx. £60). We take the view that keys don't drop off through normal use!

Its usually a case of just fix and get on with it..if I can get the bits! Don't reallly want to buy a new keyboard for the sake of two function keys that are rarely used. Could end up being blue tacked back!

I've had reasonable success with tiny dots of silicone sealant (the sort you use around the edge of the bath/sink). The keys need a bit of a a harder press to activate, but it usually works unless they've knackered the membrane below.

I have a dead L20 but doesn't seem to match up - if you have a look at Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop Keyboard it lists models with the same keyboard as yours. If you have no joy on here, that's who we've picked up our spares from.
