Honestly, these kids must've been bored...

Other than digging the stuff out, any suggestions on removing the blu-tack from the optical bits of my lovely Microsoft mouse??

paper-clip maybe, carefull not to scratch the lense though

btw: the words lovely and microsoft should never be allowed in the same sentence.

USe a bigger blob of newer blutac? Should grab the old stuff and heft it out if you use quick, sharp ripping pulls. Bit like waxing....... So I'm told.... ops:

IIRC Meths is a solvent/cleaner for BluTack. I recall using it to clean BluTack remains off wallpaper.

A quick Google brought up this site (Bostick) :
    Bostick data sheet on BluTack

Re: Removing blu-tack from an optical mouse

I am particularly fond of Mr Microsoft Mouse, just this model, mind.... its sleek curves and rounded edges set it off beautifully, and its little red light is just oh so cute ...................... ;-)

Ahem. I'm nervous about damaging the lens with meths (possibly), so for now, have carefully extracted enough to allow the optic lights to reflect accordingly... let's hope I never have to do this again...

Possibly freezer spray, then it would pick off. Not tried it mind...

Also, having just taken apart this random optical mouse for no reason:

If you undo the screws and lift out the board, you can probably just clean it with a cloth or by hand.

get offending mouse with blue tack still intact hehe, then find pupil who inserted said blue tack in mouse, then get him to open wide then jam blue tacked mouse into offending pupils gob get him to chew softly for a while then the blue tack should be soft enough to extradite form the mouse with pupils tongue. If this does not work then you have lost a mouse but on the other hand the pupil will think twice about putting blutack where it is not wanted.

    Case solved said the inspector.

sorry for the fun but i tried it once myself and the pupil choked hehe unlucky

I only wish I knew which student it was.... it wouldn't have been inserted in his (I'm sure it was a male) mouth, that I can assure you...*

I think I may have to dissect Mr Mouse on the operating table later... I hope he pulls through the operation......

    * disclaimer: I would not, of course, intentionally harm any of the darling students in my school. Unintentionally, yes... if I could do it

    lol

well if like chewing gum then

stick it in a freezer bag and then put it in freezer leave for little while and then take it out and you should be able to peal it off.

now if mouse will still work is another matter hence stick it in a freezer bag so that no water or anything gets into it

Re: Removing blu-tack from an optical mouse

I had this 3 years ago with a batch of new MS Mice. Picked it out with the end of a pin - damn tricky job - using the tip flat to the lense so not to scratch it. Mouse recovered well, and we've had no copy cat crimes since.
