Is this an unusual thing to do?

We had some components delivered for some PC upgrades today. I've set them up on my desk as pictured so I can get an OS on one to make an image. Everyone here seems to think this an extremely unusual thing to do yet it is something I used to do all the time when I worked as a shop tech.

Is this odd or are my colleauges a bunch of n00bs? :P

Thats not an ide cable is it! I just built a new computer for home and deliberatly chose a plextor dvd drive so that I would be ide free.

Then I fitted a soundblaster which uses a front bay that connects with a modified ide cable

Seriously you should consider putting the board on a metalic base.

Woods isn't known for its heat conducting properties

Isnt metal known for it's electrical conductivity??

Queue the fritzing and the smell of sindged eyebrows & PCB :P

Surely the burning wont help with the heat reduction ROFL

Its not staying like that. Once I've finished the image the motherboard will go into a proper case with standoffs and everything
