brilliant peice of kit
I've bought a few bits of Daewoo electronics. Suffice to say, I won't be anymore!
We've got a Sony VX450
Couldn't you just buy a decentish TV card for a PC and plug a VCR in? Then you have sopme options for editing, reencoding etc

We bought one of the Daewoos from Maplin at around £150 - they've had them on sale around £100 at various times, though, so you might be able to get one cheaper someplace. We've had issues getting the sound from a VHS tape to play on the TV through the supplied HDMI cable, although the problem could very well be to do with the TV and/or PC that we also have plugged in to the TV. Personally, I'd recommend one of the others mentioned here unless the budget is really tight.

Thread Resurrection!
I'm trying to get hold of one of these. Most of our resources are literally still on tape, and we need an easy way to transfer to DVD (without me spending the next decade doing it on a PC!).
Any idea where I can pick one up from? My usual suppliers haven't come through on this.
We got a Toshiba one reconditioned from Amazon. Superb piece of kit, recording to DVD is simplicity itself. Decent DVB tuner and DVD upscaling too. Cost about £90, but this was a year or so back. I would recommend ripping the created DVDs to PC once they're made though, for school use.
I use Aldi's version of the Belkin USB Videobus. Works perfectly.
Although I would much prefer my old Plextor ConvertX.
