BEWARE - LevelOne Projector Servers (RM supplied)
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has experience with these devices?
We bought a batch of 14 ("unlucky for some") last summer and have had 7 of them die on us (various faults).
On paper they seem to be a good product - wifi connection to project image from wireless client (ie laptop, tablet pc etc) whilst simultaneously allowing access to LAN via built in port.
Unfortunately a lack of suitable security (only WEP not WPA) means they arent as secure as they should be, plus the onboard software is a little flakey at times - finally they seem to have a very high failure rate!
Other opinions/experiences would be of interest!

We tried them but they were useless at multimedia presentations as the bandwidth was poor. Good idea badly inplemented.

Good 'ol RM again.
RM just seem to be a money laundering front for Bill Gates probably. They take the money, give you a poor product, product fails, they take your money for a support contract which is mainly online based.

Nah, not really....eg the RM Tablet PC is actually a Tatung, PC Monitors are just rebranded with the RM logo, etc etc....however, they do assemble there own PC's (not fantastically well in my opinion).
I have personally found that RM are great at selling to non-IT-literate teaching staff.....its the poor techie people who end up suffering as a result of mis-informed procurement.
RM's tech support is truely shocking and a lot of there 1st line support people are unprofessional, lazy, unhelpful and even rude! We had a "common fault" issue with one of RM's slimline PC cases....they refused to admit liability for the constantly failing power switch, claiming that it was "user mis-use" causing the facia to break away. They finally admitted it was a common fault months later after being threatened with legal action.
I dare say there are some positive's with regard to buying from RM, but I have yet to see any!

The only reason that RM ever did well is because they were selling to teachers - who don't like to rely on techs like us!

Thanks for the info - was considering trying one out - although when I requested a trial unit from RM they said they don't do that but I could return it under warranty if I didn't like it.... yeah right!! They really must be used to selling to teachers if they think they'd get away with that.
...am thinking that wireless projector & tablet PC would be a better classroom solution than IWB...
will certainly avoid these now though I think.....
