Intel PRO/Wireless 2011B LAN Access Point

This was recently liberated from my school for use at home (seeing as it's B grade and we dont need it any more having just moved over to 100% G grade coverage.)

The AP is all set up and configured how i want using the RS-232 connection and Hyperterminal. The problem is that i cant get my wireless machine (my laptop) to connect to it. I can see it in netstumbler but not in the windows network connections dooda.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks,
    Joe

I know this sounds blatantly obvious, but, have you checked that the AP is set to broadcast its SSID?

Have you created a wireless profile for your AP with the SSID etc in it too?

Ive got 70 of those things to find homes for since we upgraded they all have POE's too.

    Yes and yes again.

TBH i think it's something to do with the configuration of the RF settings on the AP.

What i'm acutally trying to do with it is use it as a bridge between two networks. I want to connect the cabled network in my garage with the wireless router in my house.

I'm not at all clued up on how to do that with the intel AP because i've got no instruction manual and the ones that googling revealed werent that useful.

Cheers! I'd be interested to see if it works. They're a bugger to configure though...nothing like navigating over an RS232 telnet connection

The web interface is even less useful as far as i'm concerned. But maybe it's because i've got no manuals :'(

There was a firmware and web interface upgrade available a couple of years back, did you use them? Otherwise we could potentially be looking at different kit.

Yeah i know how to connect up to it. And i have done, i'm into it on the RS232 telnet connection and the web interface, just saying that it's not particularly user friendly as far as my opinion goes.

And i'm not entirely sure whether the firmware upgrade was used, it was found at the back of a cupboard recently and was configured etc by the previous ICT techies. I've reset to factory settings and configured it to how i think it should be and no luck.

I put the SSID etc into the XP laptop (running a 54G connection) as a pre-configured WIFI connection, and still no joy.

Could the AP just be buggered?

@joedetic: If it can't be 'seen' you may want to try reflashing the firmware anyway. It probably won't do any harm.

Re: Intel PRO/Wireless 2011B LAN Access Point

got it, this has both the firmware and htm updates. After you have let the .exe extract the files to your HDD you will need to tftp them up to your ap i think i had to do them 1 at a time. I cant remember though it must have been a good 2 years ago when i did it.

Anyway good luck let me know if it helps.

Sorry i just didnt have the time to look at one of our old AP's today.
