Odd Smartboard/Dell problem

Has this not been discussed before, it's to do with the minimum spec of the power supplies, and don't forget that output degrades all the time.

Well maybe but even if it is (which I personally doubt) I was hoping that there might be a workaround.
If it was the power supply, wouldn't a powered USB hub work, which it doesn't?

Thread resurrected once again!
Same Dell model (well, 521 in this case)
BUT
now it is a different whiteboard - a promethean this time, the old ones with the serial connector with power jack connected to it.

The dell worked fine, and now if you try to get the display on the whiteboard and the computer, the whiteboard display flashes on and off.
Three other laptops, including an older Dell work fine.
The only change is that we have just had a new projector installed,and a metal faceplate to tidy everything up.
The serial cable doesnt come through the faceplate though.
Please can anyone help?
