    small UPS for modem

Got all my servers and switches on UPS, but the ADSL modem is situated in a room at the other side of the building, so looking to get a small inobtrusive UPS that will keep the modem online for an hour or so through a powercut.

    Any suggestions ?

Have you used one of these? The modem I use is just a dg834gt and doesnt have the normal UPS type power connection. Do you know if that belkin I can just plug in a normal 3 pin wall plug to?

I'm inclined not to trust Belkin supplies any more - I've had three failures and one blow up in my face, which didn't amuse me.

You're going to be hard pushed to find a cheap one with socket outputs though, most are IEC's.

Chop the plug off a two-way adaptor and fit a female iec socket*. Plug adaptor into ups (optional cable tie if it's out in the open) and then plug modem into two-way adaptor.

    Alternatively use something like this: dabs4work - APC BACK-UPS ES 550VA 230V (BE550-UK)

    * Euro Line Plug > Maplin , for example.

    ADSL modem?!

I wouldn't trust Belkin either. I ordered two UPS's from them last year, as soon as I turned the first on it blew up right in front of me. Didn't bother turning the second on.

That APC one looks the business. I wonder do they do a smaller version with maybe only 4 sockets? My main UPS is a APC so I'd be happy to use them again.

If you're going to make up your own cables, remember to have them PATted.

I've got 5 different Belkin UPS here, never had any problems. They don't seem to do the nice compact desktop one I was going to suggest anymore though APC one is probably the best under 100 if you don't want Belkin, although if money is tight

    Zigor Ebro 650VA/ 360W UPS - Misco.co.uk

    is half the price.
