Intel or AMD? This should get a lot of posturing!!!
Intel or AMD? This should get a lot of posturing!!!
AMD simply because
1 - It's no frills
2 - I hate the Intel Inside thing on TV adverts.
I agree at the moment AMD, they have better heat (or lack of) and a full working 64bit processor, plus Intel are trying dirty tricks on them (think Virgin v British Airways!, not London v Paris)!!!

Opteron processors are great! Love the things!
Just bought 10 Sun servers (total of 17 processors) and in my last job the last server I bought was a dual Opteron from IBM.
Intel just don't seem to be offering any advantage at the moment in high end processors.
The mobile processors that Intel do still seem to be the best bet for laptops.
AMD all the way!
They are also cheaper!
mmmmm let me think
AMD AMD AMD AMD
Cost affective Good Processor and not to Greedy
I recently read Black Viper again... and his rant on the subject is interesting: http://dhost.info/kyeu/mirror/blackv...vs_intel_2.htm
Always bought AMD personally. A lot of the school stuff is Intel though (Dell servers, Fujitsu desktops, etc).
Recently we've been building our own AMD Semperon based desktop machines at Carr Hill and have been quite pleased with them.
Is it too late to add a poll? AMD all the way btw.
Wow, I knew I was a fan of AMD, but no one is sticking up for Intel!!!
Big on AMD for home (like Geoff) but I have always used Intel ones in servers (Xeon now - Pentium II 5 years ago) and premade desktops like HP, Fujitsu, etc (pentium 4). AMD (Duron 3 years ago - Athlon XP up to a little while back - Athlon 64 for future) for desktops I've built for school/outside work.
Have avoided Celeron based machines until this year as they perform well enough for what kids need to do (people managed to sway my opinion on it, as did the price lol).

Intel .... or at least it will be Intel when I can get my hands on one of the new Macs
It is hard to explain how sad this thought actually makes me feel ...

Intel for my servers, but AMD are far better value on the desktop. I hate Celerons after my first school network had 50+ Celeron 366 powered machines (thanks for nothing Viglen!) which were like trying to dam lake Coniston with tissue paper when carying out an intensive task, such as typing a letter.
You should worry, I've still got about 70 left of those damned Viglen boxes, and they are all still working.Originally Posted by Dos_Box

I'm an Intel supporter myself, only because I had a very bad run in with an AMD... long time ago but it annoyed me.
I might build an AMD fast PC next just to see the difference.
This sounds nasty but AMD have always been the poor mans Intel, but I think they are now level with Intel. They seem to take the risks, but Intel does not because it thinks it has the market.
It's comparable to Skoda. Look at them now, excellent cars throughout the range because VW took the risk with them.
i don't fid it makes much difference in the real world (or school) to many other factors to take in to account (anyway what the kids don't break the staff will what ever it says is inside))
