    Cisco Pix 515E upgrade help

Is there anyone on here that is Cisco trained or has knowledge of updating a cisco pix.

I have a 515e running OS 6.3 and device manager 3.0. I am wanting to upgrade to 7.2.4. I know the right codes to upgrade the OS, but upgrading the OS, will this is take out all the settings on PIX?

    Thanks

    Tim

    Timbo,

pix 6 to pix 7 is a major upgrade, it may not recognize some existing commands that were specific to versions pre-7.x....if you've got any conduit commands in there for instance then replace [conduits have been deprecated in favour of IP ACL's. In any case you should always backup your configuration before perofrming any OS upgrade.

you can backup the config using the write net command at the cli to bacup the config to a tftp server.

Also do the copy flash tftp command to backup your existinf PIX OS image if you haven't already done so.

After that follow the procedures to upgrade to 7.x, there is a procedure to downgrade back to pix 6 if need be.

Right ok, thanks for the reply. I have been looking at a few manuals for this, and they seem to be saying everything you say.

Would i need to download and install the ASDM too to access the PDM?
