The ICT teacher wants a nice new shiny projector, lots of lumens (bet he doesn't know what they are anyway!!), ceiling mounting kit etc, and he wants it to be "good value" as opposed to cheap, and good TCO as well.

We've already discussed this really - a few topics down.

All I can see is people going on about projector installs, not the actual projectors, unless this is covered in another forum, other than hardware?
That discussion was mainly focused on DIY projector installtion, yes.
But to answer your question. I've had little problem with the NEC projectors that have been installed by Western Business Systems. I had one break (image went yellow and spotty) and I was simply refered to NEC's support line (refreshingly in Ireland) where I was asked if I wanted it repaired or replaced. I said replaced and a man came and swaped it two days later (phoned on monday, swapped wednesday).
Ask Ric about Sahara's.
I wouldn't bother getting a high lumen projecter. Its cheaper to get a decent set of blinds.
I'm reopening this thread as I'm pretty sure things have changed since the last time projector recommendations were sought.
In a nutshell I've realised that the Sahara POS projector that has been in our PCLab is pretty much a waste of time and effort getting fixed so I'd like to find something with a proper warranty (including the bulbs) for a 3 year and a good support setup.
At this point this is a sort of blue sky request but I'm able to do things like basic maintenance, bulb changes, etc... and running cable.. The key requirement is something reliable and not Sahara.
Cheers in advance..

Epson, NEC, Sanyo (disgusting orange colour though) are favorites at the moment.
Cheers Geoff,
On the back of my original query... can anyone name some good suppliers/fitters too... bearing in mind we're based in North Yorkshire.
Not to put too much emphasis on this but I could use a few specific recommendations on projector models if that'd be possible..
Bit wary of just choosing any old NEC, etc...
Dont the sanyos suffer from that yellowing problem?

Epson or Hitachi. Roche AV are very good, the last lot of kit I had from Roche came with 5 year unlimited Bulb Warranty which is Ace! It truely is unlimited (had 3 bulbs in one projector and a few ballast kits) so they are good to deal with. Can be a bit pricey compaired to others and support is good, but warranty support for the Ballast kit can be slow but they are good repairs etc...
The NEC's I have here are VT 460's.
Hmm.. ok so far I've gotten some useful info but I still feel like I'm going to get taken for a ride if I'm not careful.
Looking through the range of projectors available it's something of a stab in the dark routine trying to work out what I should be picking but I guess I'll give Roche a call tomorrow and see what they recommend based on the layout, etc.. and get some idea of prices and units that fit our rough budget too.
Could be interesting...
Buy anything but sanyo, please, for your own sake! :-DOriginally Posted by ChrisH
