Well it doesn't have enough ram or disk space to be a usable windows laptop. How about sticking Linux on it and having a play around?

Old? That's standard-issue around here! I've got three old laptops (with 32MB of RAM) I'm planning to turn into Thinstation thin clients - I've just bought a job lot of CF cards and laptop HDD adapters off eBay for local boot media, now I've just got to find them a server of some sort...

Some schools I support are still using laptops with the specifications you mentioned! Sad but true! If you installed Windows 2000, it would run at a decent speed. You could surf the web, bit of word processing and the occasional game of Solitaire![]()
Hi,
just been playing around with this myself after a couple of useful replies to a post I made on the *nix forum.
Re use of laptops.
At the moment I have got DSL (D** Small Linux) to work on celeron 980mhz with 128 M ra

place it six inches outside of offstump....2 feet forward of the batting crease.
Then aim and try and hit it with a brand new blood red 6oz conker of pain.
I was thinking of setting it up somewhere as an info screen?
getting ready for the start of the season then?place it six inches outside of offstump....2 feet forward of the batting crease.

absolutely.....got sky sports now aswell so will be watching a lot of it aswell.
I think i've stumbled on a great idea, all old laptops should be used in cricket practice at schools, that's if any schools still have cricket practice for the teams. Placed in that position it encourages bowlers to bowl in that corridor of uncertainty, much harder to visualize hitting that length at that age than if there was a physical target - after a half a dozen overs and a completely battered to pieces laptop it becomes second nature....after all bowling at a square target was good enough for Glenn Mcgrath.
1 buy a new laptop
2 clean old laptop up and make it look like new
3 put stickers from new laptop on old laptop
4 give it to the idiot who insists on using laptops in schools, and tell him/her that it is the latest spec !
lol
